Me

Oh how I treasure poems like this. It's rare when writing comes this easily. This poem poured out of me. I feel like it's been inside for a long time...waiting to be written. Writing moments like these are precious.

Me

I am
Me
tall
plump
smiling
curly-haired
Me

I read
I write
I learn
I listen
I share
I talk

for so long
I hid
behind a mask
behind expectations
behind fear

pretending
to be
who I thought
should be

it was
lonely
no one
knew

didn't let
them

today
I'm
Me

some like Me
some don't

it doesn't matter

am

  1. I love it, so expressive and true! Feels good to accept yourself just the way you are. Congrats on being in the TeacherPoets group. I will be hanging out but not visually. Unfortunately I could not commit to all 4 days. I am disappointed but I have to accept that my family comes first, and always. I will get to see the real you!

    1. Margaret, Thank you! I'm bummed you aren't part of the online group, but I'm glad you'll be watching! :) That will make me feel better...less nervous!

You are fearfully and wonderfully made! A child of the King!

  3. Michelle,
Love the shape and the rhythm of this poem. It stands tall, as I'm sure you do too. Why do we hide behind fear? It is a relief when we can move past it to become who we are.

  5. This was almost like reading your celebration post! I am not sure when you found the "real" you, but I am glad you did! Thank you for sharing that. I continue to see sparkle coming from your words!
