Morning Time

Slice of Life ChallengePlease join the challenge over at Two Writing Teachers!

I wonder why I'm a morning person?!?! My favorite time of day is when I open my eyes and realize I get to start again. Mornings are hopeful. Mornings are quiet. Mornings whisper and encourage me. Being outside in the morning air is like nothing else! It wakes me and brings me such joy.
It doesn't matter the weather...well, except rainy mornings...I love those too, but I'd love to spend those inside watching the rain. The pink sky brightens as it welcomes the sun. The dew on the grass shimmers in the light. I know that so much of this may be cliche, but I can't help it...My favorite part of a morning walk is coming home. Grabbing a steaming cup of coffee, sitting down with my notebook and writing...planning out the day ahead.

I wonder, What does being a morning person say about me? I think it means that I value hope...and quiet time to reflect....beauty and solitude. On morning walks with my dog, Bella, it feels like we are the only ones in the world...like the world belongs to us. I feel lucky and grateful and joy-filled. When I sleep late, I feel a pinch of regret because I missed those early morning moments.

Good Morning!

  1. Good morning, Michelle! I think morning people also tend to be positive people. (Not to say that night owls are negative.)

  2. I am so with you Michelle. There is NOTHING like writing into the day when it's fresh and new. We are leaving for Israel soon and if you aren't up and out early, really early, you have lost the day. Of course I'm hoping it's quieter when we arrive.

  5. I am with you. I am a morning person as well. I enjoy listening to the birds planning their day outside the window. I enjoy the peace and quiet before the chaos of the day begins. I enjoy the "me"time.

  6. You certainly captured what so many of us have found. There is a peace and calmness to the morning when our energy is highest and the potential of the day is at its peak! Wonderful pictures too.

  7. I used to be such a good morning person 'till I had a child. Now I savor every extra moment of sleep I can get in the mornings. (Granted, most days I'm up by 5:45 so it's not like I don't get up early. But I used to wake up at 5.)

  8. Good morning! I love hearing the birds, even in the winter. The walks invigorate me, Michelle. Thanks for reminding us about the beauty of the mornings.

  9. Good morning! I have been more of a night owl this summer, but I do love mornings: the light, the quiet, the hope for the day!

  10. I love mornings, too. I woke up this morning around 6 and wrote my Slice. I would love to go on a walk with you and Bella, along with my Charlie.

  11. Oh, I so wish I was a morning person for all these great reasons!!! I'm just not. My husband is also one of these morning people and reminds me that if I only got up earlier, I would be able to accomplish so much more ... I save it for later in the evening when I know my little ones are fast asleep and they won't need me until morning. Maybe one day I can train myself to be a morning person, but for now (especially after having kids) I sleep in.

  12. I wish I was a morning person, but alas, I am not. I get a burst of energy around 10:00 pm. My cat, however, loves the mornings and her enthusiasm makes me laugh -- she wakes me (earlier than I would like) every morning and is honestly so excited to start the day.

  13. Getting up as early as I do (4:30am) just makes me a very tired person. BUT, I'm always so glad that my workout is in and done and I think I'm more focused because of it. It's a double edged sword :) I like your more positive outlook on it!

  14. Michelle, your morning thoughts and photos show your love for this time of day that allows reflective time for you. Might this be your summer serenity? I look forward to hearing from you so that you can be featured in my REFLECT WITH ME:Summer Serenity Gallery that will come out around mid-August.
