Celebrating Space

Thank you to Ruth for giving us the inspiration and the space to share celebrations every week!

This week I had two school days. One day was meetings and the other was working in my classroom. A few days ago I wrote about this quote...
In reflecting on those words I realize that I often stress out during the opening of school because I am comparing myself with those around me. To help me with this, I sat down and I wrote about returning to school and I made plans for my classroom.

I decided to break it down into steps, so this week I organized the furniture. I thought about "dead" space from last year and I played with the arrangement. This week, I'll organize the books and bulletin boards and the walls. I celebrate growth and acceptance. I know who I am and I am accepting that I am enough.

Here are some pictures to help you (and me) see the progress. Here's the what the space looked like when I first walked in...

With some thought and arranging, this is how it looks now. I'm really excited about this area...

I celebrate changes.
I celebrate moving.
I celebrate confidence.
I celebrate this classroom space!

  3. It looks fabulous, Michelle. I love all the pics before & after, & that you created a thing link for "extra" information. I worked in my office again yesterday, & am working to organize all the books for easy access. It's been such fun to do, gets me excited for the year, & I see that you are getting excited too by your words! Have another good week!

  6. I would love to hang out in your classroom. It's such a daunting task every year to arrange and rearrange the furniture. I have to do it in 2 classrooms! I'm not complaining because at least I have 2 rooms. Some itinerants use closets or conference rooms. THanks for sharing and good luck with the start of the year!

  8. You are creating quite a comfortable, inviting learning space for your students! I love to look at Pinterest, but I have had to stop because it was stressing me out that I am not able to create picture perfect spaces. Like you said, it's all about acceptance, right?

  13. Looks like you are making progress! So much time and effort is put into getting a classroom ready. People have no idea, do they? I think I need to post some pictures of my new classroom.
