App Round Up

Today is my 30th slice for the
March Slice of Life Challenge on

During this month, I've been introduced to lots of new apps! Today I'm going to round up all of the new apps I've learned from all of you! For me it all began with Nutshell. I learned about it at #EdCampNOVA. Playing around with it became such fun!!

Nutshell (free): You take three pictures. As you are taking pictures, the phone is actual taking video once you begin. Each of the three pics become still shots in a very short video. You can add on animation and text. The drawback, I'd love to be able to embed into my blog or upload onto youtube. Sharing is limited to facebook, twitter, instagram and email. Here's a link to a fun nutshell I made about my favorite pens...Pen Nutshell

Vanillapen (free, $4.99 to unlock everything): I love seeing the beautiful quotes online. I never knew how to make them, until one day I noticed one of the quotes had the word vanillapen at the bottom. I googled it...the rest is history! Making posters with Vanillapen is so much fun! I paid the money to unlock everything! I think it's worth it! There are so many possibilities with this amazing app. Here is one of my posters...

WordSwag ($3.99) At this point, I am now obsessed with word posters and someone introduces me to WordSwag. There are so many choices for backgrounds! The text choices are beautiful too! Here are some new posters...

Waterlogue ($2.99) Now at this point, I was done. I wasn't going to buy anymore apps! Until I saw Stacey use it on her blog. She used it on a picture of her niece and I was hooked! Waterlogue takes photos and turns them into watercolor pieces of art...

Visual Poetry ($1.99) The applications for this app are endless!! I love the idea of creating concrete poetry. You can draw your own shapes, change the font and colors...so many choices. Here's a quick poem I made about what I love...

Percolator ($2.99) Honestly, this is one I haven't purchased. Stacey is using it and it looks very cool! (I've reached my app budget this month, LOL!) This app turns pictures into mosaics. Here's a link to Stacey's use of percolator.

Popsicolor  ($2.99) This app is similar to Waterlogue. It turns the photo into a watercolor as well, but with this app, you can choose the colors. I've just started playing around with this one.

Little Hoots (free): This app is a great one for parents! It's free, so I tried it. You can turn the funny things your kids say into posters. The choices are geared towards kids. I think you can save them too and even turn them into pictures you can hang on the wall.

I'm having lots of fun with these apps. What apps are MUST HAVE apps for you?!?!

  1. Oh my, you have gone "ape" over "apps!" I've used Waterlog and Vanillapen - but I find I go long stretches without using them....I get in a mode...then I get out of that mode....

  5. Thanks for sharing your ideas about these great apps. I have been able to upload a Nutshell from my phone to YouTube and embed it on my blog. I'm not sure how my phone knows my YouTube account, but it does.

  7. Thank you for doing this incredible round-up. There are a couple I haven't tried (e.g., Nutshell and Popsicolor) that I want to try. Like you, my app budget has been maxed this month so I'm going to wait.

For the record, I wouldn't buy Percolator if I could do it again. I don't the think images are that beautiful.
