Exercise

Today this blog post is serving two purposes...my 26th slice for the March Slice of Life Challenge on the Two Writing Teachers blog...it's also my contribution for Spiritual Journey Thursday on Holly Mueller's blog!

EXERCISE. Sigh...
Taking that word literally...I fail. I fail to physically exercise my body. I do it for awhile and then revert to bad habits. This word makes me uncomfortable because I have so much improvement to make in this area.
EXERCISE in my spiritual life. Hmmm...I'm wondering if I should take this literally or search for a figurative meaning. I need to write about this literally! Literally, I'd like to work on Prayer Walking. I have a book on it. It's exactly what it sounds like.

Why? Why do I struggle? Why do I avoid this? I did prayer walking for awhile and I loved it. Found myself sleeping better and feeling calmer and healthier. It's a commitment...but this commitment is to myself. Why does it seem that those are the hardest to keep?

EXERCISE. I need to refocus myself and incorporate
EXERCISE into my life. I need to make myself a priority. I took a break from writing this post and purchased a FitBit...it's something I've wanted for such a long time and avoided. Avoiding is something I'm good at...but this is important!
Getting ready to move...to EXERCISE!

  1. So, the SOL challenge ends AND my own EXERCISE challenge will begin. I think you can join me on this. 25 minutes at least every single day......Last year I did it.....it was hard but I rewarded myself for every exercise moment with sleeping better and feeling better!

  3. The only exercise I've ever found that I love is Zumba. I can't wait for the weather to break a little because that helps, too. I'm definitely going to read about prayer walking!!

  4. I purposely did not write about the physical exercise because it is a word I dislike. I do it, though, and always happy I did, but getting there is the hardest part.

  5. Michelle, word of caution on a Fitbit. It"s so tiny that my husband andnI lost. I've been doing yoga but now tore my rotator cuff so now my current exercise is in physical therapy. Walking I'll start with the good weather coming.

  6. Inspiring and Honest! I've been avoiding my exercise-it's so dark here! I've been writing instead. :) But when I exercise, I usually end up in prayer, which is pretty cool. Some good, authentic stuff happens out there. But those first few steps out the door are always the hardest for me! Thought-provoking writing this morning! Thanks!

  7. Those words, "commitment to self" are often the hardest to keep, I agree. There's always something else pulling us away. Good luck with the Fitbit-I hope it'll keep you keeping on! I don't have one, but I've heard others love it.

  8. Michelle,
We JUST talked about prayer walking in our Adult Ed committee at church! We didn't have resource for it, though, so thank you SO much for the link! I completely understand your struggle with physical exercise. It's such a difficult commitment to stick with - I know the FitBit really helps people focus.

  9. I have the hardest time with this, and use my fibromyalgia as an excuse - but, maybe, now that winter is at an end, I can walk!

  12. Yeah for FitBit! I love mine!! It is my accountability and personal challenger! When I lived in Asia, we did prayer walking. Now my daughter does that where she is living.

  13. A few years ago I walked twice a day, 10 miles a day and 5-6 times a week. This the best physical shape I had ever been in. Then came my heal pain and it has been all downhill since. I know I need to get back into something - anything! So pray for heal pain to go away or the courage to go get the shot! :) I just checked out that book and I will be making it to our Bible Book Store this weekend. thanks for the rec.

  14. The word "exercise" all through your piece is like a little bell dinging - it dings for me too. So far, I've been trying to at least do 10 minutes while I make my French press coffee - it is a reward.
