We Are Writers

Thank you to Stacey, Betsy, Dana, Tara, Beth, Anna, Kathleen & Deb for this amazing platform to write and share writing! What a wonderful community you've created! I'm honored to be part of it. Join us at Two Writing Teachers.

It's over. March is ending today. When the month and this challenge approaches, I get nervous and worried...as the days progress, I get into a groove...as the month ends, I get sad and feel a loss. I wanted to find an appropriate way to end, so I am borrowing (and adapting) the form Alan Wright used on his blog Living Life Twice yesterday and writing about who we are right now.

Right now...

We are writing our final slice for the month
We are weary from pouring our hearts into our words
We are peacocks...proud of overcoming our doubts
We are owls...wiser from writing our story everyday
We are buttresses...supporting each other every step of the way
We have sistered each other through these days with our words
We showed up
We told our messy stories

And now
the days return to normal
these moments get absorbed by life
and disappear
except for us...

We are forever changed by our words
We are forever different because of the commitment we made
We. Are. Writers.

  1. Beautiful! I love the poem! I agree with you about first the worry, then the groove, then the feeling of sadness kind of like the day after Christmas. But we know the writing goes on because WE ARE WRITERS! 😊

  2. I love the comparison of the animals to the writers. This a great piece that allows this wonderful community to celebrate sharing and showing up!

  3. I loved the way Alan did that yesterday, too. And I love the way you summed it all up for us, this month of writing. We are forever changed by our words, by another's words, by having done this. Thank you, Michelle. ;-)

  4. It's such a process, isn't it? I really enjoyed your creative animal metaphors today and all of your posts this month. I'm still thinking about dreams because of your recent post. Now I'm going to be thinking of getting myself a Slice of Life T-shirt, too! Love it!

  11. We won't stop writing. Maybe some of us write once or twice a week, some daily, some share , some write in their journals. You will write a book.
