Pensee Poem

Today is my 27th slice for the
March Slice of Life Challenge on Two Writing Teachers.

I first heard of these poem forms here on this blog, Windows to My Life. A pensee poem is a poem that uses syllabic form. There's no specific meter or rhyme.

syllabic count 2-4-7-8-6;
line 1 is the subject;
line 2 gives description;
line 3, action;
line 4, the setting;
line 5, final thought.

My brand new fitbit arrived yesterday. I was inspired to write about it, so here is my poem about my new Fitbit...

always with me
protector of my body
wrapped around my wrist like a hug
Thank you for being there!

I am looking forward to wearing my fitbit. I'm hopeful that it will help me to move more! Try out the pensee poem for yourself! Have a great Sunday!

  1. Enjoy your FitBit. One of my colleagues has that style and it is really nice since it shows the time and steps, etc. (rather than waiting to get to the computer). My own FitBit story ended up being a bit of a joke. I finally got a FitBit (but the flex model) and I was so horrible about getting it back on my wrist after needing to charge it that instead I realized that it helped me to see about what I needed to do in a day to get the minimum movement I should and then sold my FitBit on a work listserv. Pretty much everyone else in my department has one though. So far I'm the only one I know who was didn't get into a regular routine with it.

  2. enjoyed your poem! I love my FitBit--only had it about a month now and it really has helped me get moving. Hope you enjoy yours, as well.

  3. I love having fun with new techniques. Passing inspiration on. I enjoyed how you described your Fitbit.

  5. Oh FitBit! If you inspire poems, I must have needed to spend more time looking at you yesterday at Costco! ;) Great post, thanks for the poetry idea!

  6. Love the "like a hug", Michelle. Best to you & your new "pal"!

  7. Yeah for FitBit!!!!! I love how you find inspiration in the ordinary items!

  8. You remind me that I have been meaning to get one of these, Michelle. I walk around so much when I'm in Manhattan, then I get home to suburban New Jersey and it's back to driving everywhere. :(

  9. My daughter got one for Christmas last year and she still has not used it. I think it is still in the case. I might have to steal it from her. Love the pensee form. I will add that to my poetry playground for next month.

  10. So many people have caught the Fitbit bug! The good news is teachers walk so much it's an affirmation of what your are doing! Love the Pensee form. A new way to look at syllabic poetry!
