3 A.M.

This is the time I woke up today...and yesterday...and the day before that. I'm in a cycle of 3 AM wake-ups. It's peaceful. The world is still asleep. When I wake up and I know I'm not going back to sleep, I may read or write. I feel productive.

3 AM is not the problem...the problem is 3 PM. It's when I've been awake and going for twelve hours and the day isn't done. I'll deal with it later. Until then, I'll enjoy that my blog post is finished because I woke up at 3 AM.

(Not the first time, I've blogged about this either. I just found this post from 2017.)

This post is for my writing goal for #TeachWritetober for TeachWrite. This post is also a slice for the Two Writing Teachers Blog

  1. 3am is not the problem...the problem is 3pm - what a great line! I agree that those pre dawn hours are peaceful and yes, they can be productive. Here's to your cycle moving from the three hours to the four hours! Welcome back to slicing, Michelle!

  2. I loved that line to and totally relate to the 3AM wake up cycle. It does not feel so hard at the time, but man, 12 hours later, you are right-bang! Hope you are getting some better sleep soon and so glad to see you slicing again!

  3. I've often pondered waking up even earlier and then worry about the twelve hours later. I hope you remember the joy you felt early to get through the afternoon. Glad to see you slicing, I trying too.

  4. I was up with you ... for a bit ... agree: mornings are fine but the afternoons are a bear

  5. Four a.m. works for me. Three is pushing it especially at the end of the day. But I know our bodies sometimes have their own ideas about these things. It's nice to have your writing life to settle into in the wee hours

  6. Glad to see you here. You accept the 3:00 am wake up. I tend to fight it. Toss and turn and keep my eyes closed. Maybe I should wake up too, to write or read. And then nap at 3pm.

  7. I would happily be one of those "in the world" who would be snuggled under the covers fast asleep at 3:00! I'd never make it!

  8. That's the worst when you know you'll never go back to sleep! Might as well get up and write. :-)
